How much is in a serving?
A serving size is a measured amount of food—1 cup, 1 slice, 1 teaspoon, etc. It's the amount you'll see on a food label, and it's what the USDA uses in the Healthy Eating Guidelines and daily recommendations.
How many servings does an average person eat?
The reality, however, is that the average person will consume all 20 oz or 2.5 servings, and therefore double the calories.
A serving size is denoted for each nutrition facts label and corresponds to the amount of nutrition found in such an amount of food as delineated by the numbers on the label. 4-5 servings of vegetables per day. 1 serving is about the size of a medium to large apple.

According to the USDA, current daily recommendations for a 2,000-calorie diet include: 5 1/2 ounces of lean meat or 1 1/4 cups cooked beans.

The health benefits of meat

You may have heard that you should eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day — which works out to a total of about 2½ cups.
A portion is how much food you choose to eat at one time, whether in a restaurant, from a package, or at home. A serving, or serving size , is the amount of food listed on a product's Nutrition Facts label, or food label (see Figure 1 below). If you want to eat 2 cups—or half the package—you'd be eating two servings.

Servings per container shows how many recommended servings are in the entire package. If your child ate the entire package of macaroni and cheese, he or she would eat two servings (two cups).

For example, not eating won't cause your stomach to shrink over time. And eating small amounts of food won't “shrink your stomach” either.
The stomach normally does not digest itself because of a mechanism which regulates gastric secretion. This checks the secretion of gastric juice before the content becomes sufficiently corrosive to damage the mucosa.
